"Viking Star", new cruise ship of "Viking Ocean Cruises" came on the April 6 to Gruz (Dubrovnik) harbor, on her maiden voyage in the Mediterranean, after delivering from Fincantieri's Marghera shipyard.
Viking Cruises' "Viking Star”, is the first of three new ships of the company's ocean cruising company. Viking Oceans has two more new builds in production at Fincantieri's shipyard in Marghera, near Venice. "Viking Sea” and "Viking Sky” will be delivered in 2016. as a sister-ship of "Viking Star”. These are more luxurious than commercial ships that provide a "deluxe" service. Company owner Mr. Torstein Hagen also joined the first Viking voyages.
Key highlights of the new line, which is based on Viking Rivers' uber-successful series of riverboats, is its destination-oriented cruise experience, with few days at sea, long days in ports and more overnights in key places than offered by other lines.
"Viking Star" offers luxurious amenities and high level of service; all cabins are spacious with balconies, the service is "all inclusive", with plenty of entertainment taking place in the ports where the ship stays for a long time. Features include value-oriented extras such as a selection of free shore excursions, complimentary Wi-Fi, and beer and wine served without charge at lunch and dinner.
Many new features reflect more of a boutique hotel feel, including a fire pit, an Armagnac bar, and a Nordic-influenced spa with snow room and sauna.
The company has also committed to incorporating sustainable features on the ship that include energy-efficient engines, streamlined hulls and bows for fuel efficiency, and exhaust minimization efforts.
In its maiden season, Viking Star will spend spring, summer and fall trawling the waters of northern Europe's Baltic and fjords, and the Mediterranean.
The General Manager of Dubrovnik Port Authority, Mr. Antun Asic, welcomed the ship's captain, Mr. Gulleik Svalastog and crew of the ship. The reception was attended by representatives of the City of Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik Tourist Board, Dubrovnik County Port Authority and local media.

On Eastern Monday, 6th April 2015, except "Viking Star”, cruise ships "Oceana" and "FTI Berlin" came to Dubrovnik, so the new season of cruise ships is officially opened.
By the end of year, we expect  462 cruise calls in Dubrovnik Port, and together with anchorage in front of the Old City - 597 cruise calls ( in destination), which is about 20 ships more than last year.
