Exactly one year after the Press conference was held on 7th May 2014 on board "Thomson Majesty” in Port of Gruž in Dubrovnik regarding the positioning of the Port of Dubrovnik as the turnaround port for the ship "Thomson Celebration” in 2015, the first guests embarked on cruise ship Thomson Celebration and Dubrovnik Port became a homeport.
"Thomson Celebration” is a cruise ship suitable for families with children, with capacity of 1,254 passengers and 520 crew members, and will arrive in Dubrovnik every Thursday from the 7th of May to the 22nd of October. In total "Thomson Celebration” will dock in Dubrovnik 25 times, and apart from Dubrovnik the cruise ship will also visit other Croatian destinations, such as Split, Sibenik, Zadar and Rovinj. The obvious advantages of being a homeport for a cruise ship is the added business, such as flights, hotel stays, excursions, transport and taxes.
The importance of positioning Dubrovnik as the turnaround port - homeport for the Thomson Celebration ship in 2015. lies in the fact that this is the way to extend the stay of tourists in the area and the benefits for the local economy. Homeport for Dubrovnik means a whole new process of cruise tourism-it's a 'stay' destination.
"The fact that Dubrovnik port was selected as the turnaround port for Thomson Cruises is great honour for us, but also a challenging task not only for the port, but also for its concessioners, travel agent, Dubrovnik airport and officials,” remarks the general manager of Dubrovnik Port Authority Mr. Anton Asic. "MV Thomson Celebration will weekly call at Dubrovnik and passengers will arrive from Great Britain with an airplane and travel packet that also includes the option of a seven-day stay in Dubrovnik hotels, which will generate additional revenue in the area. In preparation for this project we have excellent co-operation with Thomson and its local representative.”
Passenger ship „Thompson Celebrity" was built in April, 1984 in French shipyard " Chantiers de l' Atlantique " for a company " Holland America Line ". In the 2005 it has been a change of ownership and change of the official name, so ship " Noordam" became "Thompson Celebration " .
Thomson Cruises has a fleet of five ships: Thomson Celebration, Thomson Dream, Thomson Majesty, Thomson Spirit and Island Escape.
